Blast everything in sight, find new weapons, and blast some more. It's explosive fun, especially in the Head to Head mode where two players compete in smaller arenas. The disparate levels in this good-looking game include the inside of a huge spacecraft, a jungle, and ice fields. Sharp details and bright colors combine for strong visuals, with dramatic cut scenes adding good comic-book intensity.
Populating the diverse worlds are tons of well-defined robots, high-tech gun emplacements, and darting airborne attackers. As a nifty touch, some of your enemies are tiny humans who are like annoying mosquitoes to your big bad 'bot. And everything's clearly visible -- the onscreen action is uncluttered by status bars, timers, or point totals. After blasting through the orange blocks, rescue your Mission One shipmate at the lower left Shoot a passageway through to the left to escape. The sounds are the only relative weakness.
While they're not bad, they aren't really distinctive. Standard explosions and feeble grunts are layered over typically torrid techno-rock. It's not quite the heavy metal these metal- heads might've inspired. Superior controls make this game stand out. You start with an energy shield, saber and cannon, as well as a jet pack for transportation. Later, you find a variety of homing weapons and grenades for extra firepower. What's more, you can make your tiny pilot jump from his Metal Warrior to shoot other little guys.
You can then guide him to a pilotless Metal Warrior, where he jumps in and fires an array of new weapons. Control variety like this makes for hours of stunning gunning.
Easy mazes, fast fun, and gun-happy thrills -- hey, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to play Metal Warriors. You just have to love action games. Good ones like this are in shoot supply. Each map is massive, with multiple paths to your end goal usually. You can destroy parts of the environment to create your own path as well as find hidden items.
While you can find at least one or two other suits in mission they are more of a bonus than a requirement.
Objectives change frequently and make each level dynamic. Stage three asks you to secure the enemy base. But once that is complete you have to protect its core so the enemies do not blow it up instead in revenge. Mission four is essentially a tower defense as you have to defeat a set number of enemies before they destroy your base of operations.
The only thing holding Metal Warriors back from being an absolutely phenomenal game is its high difficulty. This is the one area I wish it did not follow the Assault Suit series and it can be off putting. Your mech is not terribly mobile and due to uneven terrain your shield is not very effective. The game does its best to sprinkle health packs throughout each map but it still does not feel like enough.
The maps are too big for their own good and the vague map does not help. Some missions like Ship Defense are absolutely merciless and spike through the roof. The brutal difficulty would not be so bad if there passwords or battery back-up to save progress.
This is a long game and having to finish in one sitting with limited continues is rough. Lucas Arts have done an excellent job of mimicking the Assault Suit art style while also imbuing Metal Warriors with its own character.
Armored plates served as a shield against incoming fire, and while the Ballistic mech lacked a melee weapon, it didn't necessarily need one.
By rolling into a sphere, the assault suit could rotate in place to store up energy and then smash itself into the enemy. The Ball could also jump while in movement mode. Drache: Considered to be the pinnacle of military technology, the Drache was a highly mobile aerial assault suit.
Except for landing, the Drache was incapable of operating on the ground. In terms of offense, the Drache really only had two weapons. The main weapon was a rapid-fire plasma gun that was capable of firing in any direction the direction of fire was determined by the button s pressed , making the Drache useful against both ground and air targets.
While effective, this weapon was nothing when compared to the Drache itself. By folding inward, the Drache could dive-bomb enemy targets. While diving, the Drache was protected by an energy shield in addition to being driven by boosters. The resultant effect of the speeding Drache colliding with an enemy was devastating. Despite the lack of equipment, the Drache was extremely mobile, so the pilot was expected to make good use of that feature.
Each suit is also equipped with a backpack unit that can use backpack power-ups. These backpack power-ups were: rocket launcher, grenade launcher, mine layer, or a gravity inverter.
Like the suit's ranged gun, the backpack unit may be disabled if the suit takes significant damage. Other power-ups suits can use are health power-ups instantly restoring a damaged suit to full health , and various upgrades for the suit's primary gun.
In addition, while ejected from the suit, the player controlled a marine equipped with a pistol and jetpack. The player could fly in a manner similar to the nitro; but was understandably slower.
The pistol was useless against all enemies with the exception of soldiers and scientists lacking armor. Fortunately, most enemies would ignore the player when controlling the marine.
Exploration was also possible because the marine could fit into smaller spaces and scout ahead without attracting the attention of most enemies. Metal Warriors is about the United government in the year being under siege from Dark Axis led by the leader Venkar Amon. The few remaining warriors defending Earth are known as the Metal Warriors.
After successfully completing a few missions in space rescuing a pilot, gathering intelligence, defending a ship and capturing a mining facility the United government disables an anti-spacecraft cannon in Alaska in order to safely begin removing Axis forces from Earth. Missions on Earth include: assaulting a facility in the jungle, fighting through bombed-out cities and capturing subterranean mining facilities.
Finally, the player confronts Amon and defeats him in a battle between fully mobile flying armored suits. Lucasfilm Wiki Explore. Lucasfilm Products. Administrators User:Byzantinefire User:Maurice. Explore Wikis Community Central. Register Don't have an account?
